News Blog Category - News Starting Monday, Oct. 22, Federa Smith is serving as principal for Justice Intermediate School.

The school’s new leader will be a familiar face to many. She previously served in various roles for Marion Community Schools over the course of 30 years, including teaching, district HR, and principal at Lincoln Elementary (now closed) in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After several years serving as a principal leader in Fort Wayne Community Schools, she returned to Marion Community Schools this school year as district academic specialist, helping lead the focus on literacy learning in both Justice Intermediate School and McCulloch Junior High School.
"It is so good for our students, families, and city to have Federa Smith back home again, serving Marion Community Schools. Her passionate, skilled, and proven leadership will make a GIANT difference in the lives of our Justice Intermediate School family," MCS Superintendent Dr. Brad Lindsay said. "Federa is an all-win, invested Marion community member. She knows, understands, respects, and loves the people of Marion. Federa is also known, respected, and loved by the people of Marion. She will inspire right relationships and motivation in a culturally responsive and relevant way that will move us upward at Justice Intermediate."
Smith, who remained a Marion resident throughout her time in Fort Wayne, said she is happy to be back serving the people of Marion.
"I am excited to again be a part of the Marion Community Schools family," she said. "I look forward to working with the outstanding students, parents, and staff of Justice Intermediate School."
Marion Community Schools is grateful to outgoing Justice Principal Robin Peterman for her work over the past year and half, which has been an important part of our plan for continuous success.
